BLM Cambridge remains steadfast in supporting Black lives everywhere, especially in Haiti. Cambridge has long been the home of many displaced Haitians. Haitians back home suffer political instability, violent economic conditions, and devastating environmental disasters. Following the crippling Hurricane Matthew in October 2016, BLM Cambridge partnered with a number of organizations (Kouraj, Vertiver, and Kolectif Kay Kok- Sakage) in Haiti to send aid to grassroots organizations. The efforts of BLM Cambridge reached folks in Les Cayes, Arniquet, Ile la Vache, Chantal, Torbeck and Port Salut. Recently, the region was hit with a series of flash floods that have left six people dead and many homes damaged. BLM Cambridge is committing to support those communities long term by supplying resources to repair damaged homes, install solar posts, and provide water purifiers for as many communities as possible.
In order to raise more specific funds for our Haiti Initiative, we are encouraging guests to donate more to specific items -- LED lamps, solar panels, water filters, etc.
